Dalgona Coffee

Now more than ever these days I am relying on my coffee to really carry me through the day. Work days are getting longer and lord knows my energy levels are depleting faster each day.

Y'all remember dalgona coffee? It was all the rage when the pandemic first started and everyone couldn't go to Starbucks every morning for their trendy cup of Joe. I think it originated on Tik Tok somewhere, and I have been dreaming about it ever since. I have been meaning to give this recipe a try for a while now (going on a year now...) and am finally getting around to it.

Dalgona coffee is made up of instant coffee, sugar and water. If you have a hand mixer, it will make the process much easier and faster. But a humble whisk, one powerful arm, and a good dose of patience and endurance will get you there too!

P.S. - ground coffee is not the same as instant coffee. Google how to make Dalgona with ground coffee. You can do it, it just takes a few extra steps and a little more time.

All it takes to make this delicious coffee is to combine the sugar, instant coffee and hot water in a bowl, and whisk for a solid 10-15 minutes until the mixture turns silky smooth and shiny and it holds its lofty, foamy shape. The more fluff the better! If you are whisking with an electric mixer, that time will drop down significantly.

I decided to make this recipe with Maine Roast Protein Coffee so I can make sure I am hitting my protein numbers daily. Protein AND coffee in the same shot - win/win y'all. This helps fuel me for the day so I can keep my energy rolling through my work day/night!

I would say this mixture is a little stickier than standard Dalgona coffee, but still equally as delicious. That protein just makes the whipped portion a little more dense. If you are looking to make Dalgona Coffee without the MR Protein, use a 1:1 ratio of sweetener, instant coffee and boiling water and follow the same process. For example, 2 tablespoons sweetener, 2 tablespoons instant coffee, 2 tablespoons boiling water.

Hope everyone is having a great week. Life has been ramping up lately - doing my best to navigate through the chaos 🥴 thanks for sticking with me and supporting me through the madness. Love y'all! XOXO
